1. Where were you born and how long have you been playing music for?
>I was born in Berkeley, California and have been playing music since I was six years old.
2. When did you discover you had a passion for music?
>I fell in love the first time my fingers met ivory.
3. In what ways did you develop this passion; who are your major influences?
>Since first grade, I continually searched for new ways tickle my fancy, eventually playing pieces from the likes of Chopin to Ginastera. In fourth grade, I picked up the alto saxophone and discovered a different medium in which I could express my life in tone. However, something about rhythm always struck a chord within me, and I began playing snare drum for my school’s band in sixth grade. I continued my musical exploration by learning guitar and baritone saxophone in middle school. The low soothing sound of the baritone sax spoke to me, and once I joined drumline in eighth grade, I knew from the second I touched the bass guitar that it would be my go-to mode of expression and communication. The ability to play the rhythm of a drum with the low, foundational melodies of a baritone sax seemed to me the perfect combination. I played bass guitar in jazz band and church for four years thereafter; all of this has led me to where I am today–the bassist for Seriously. I am everyday still learning to develop this passion and take it to the next level. My major influences include, but are not limited to: Marcus Miller, Pino Palladino, Jaco Pastorius, ?uestlove, John Mayer, MuteMath, Ratatat, Daft Punk, Miles Davis, Bill Evans Trio, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, and Stevie Wonder.
4. Outside of music, what do you do? What do you like to do in your free time?
>I am currently a pre-med physiological science major at UCLA–I hope to one day become a cardiologist and mend broken hearts (provided we don’t win a Grammy). In my free time, I enjoy spending quality time with the family and kickin’ it with friends, basketball, snowboarding, international cuisine, coffee, naruto, watching Scrubs, movies, and a good read.
5. What are your plans, goals, and dreams in the music business?
>Get rich or die trying (kidding!). Leave a legacy.
6. What is your all-time favorite song?
>”Let it Be” by the Beatles.
7. What is one song that you absolutely hate?
>”Hot N Cold” by Katy Perry.
